A Picnic Perfect Day

A walk in the woods unveiled a bounty of blossoms.

The love of my life enjoying the view from our "bit of earth".

Revelling in the warmth of the sun.

The Finished Product

Mission accomplished with a few days to spare...and there's still time to enjoy it while I read with the kids on our chilly spring mornings! Posted by Picasa

Our Bit of Earth

"Might I," quavered Mary, "might I have a bit of earth?"....

"You can have as much earth as you want," he said. "You remind me of some one else who loved the earth and things that grow. When you see a bit of earth you want," with something like a smile, "take it, child, and make it come alive."

The Secret Garden, by Francis Hodgson Burnett

This "bit of earth" is now officially ours! And someday soon, this will be the view from our living room. I can hardly wait to make it come alive with the sounds of our family, living and learning on our bit of earth.

Spring Grass
by Carl Sandburg

Spring grass, there is a dance to be danced for you.
Come up, spring grass, if only for young feet.
Come up, spring grass, young feet ask you.

Smell of the young spring grass,
You're a mascot riding on the wind horses.
You came to my nose and spiffed me. This is your lucky year.

Young spring grass just after the winter,
Shoots of the big green whisper of the year,
Come up, if only for young feet.
Come up, young feet ask you.

Countdown To Completion

It's been a year and two months now since I began this infamous knitting project of mine. Why I chose this tedious pattern as a novice knitter is beyond my current understanding. However, the shawl, which has lain dormant in my closet since moving into our current home, has been picked up once again and the needles placed into action. I'm a woman on a mission now!

The goal: to finish this shawl in the next three weeks. It must be finished to enjoy, however briefly, in the remaining cool days of spring. A half hour a day for the next 18 days, with a few thrown in to compensate for the unforseen, will get me to the finish line.

Cheer me on and be watching for pics of the completed project!

Celebrating Life

Last week was our Spring Birthday Bash. I fully intended to honor these birthdays with their own special posts; however it came down to a choice, I could either celebrate or post. I celebrated! Here's to two awesome teens in my home. I love you both with all my heart.
